Learning tools: Media Arabic Text Collection

Hi there,

For people interested in new learning materials: the Media Arabic Text Collection (MATC) is a great place for intermediate level students of Modern Standard Arabic.

MATC presents texts containing news reports in different ways. An extensive description of MATC can be read on https://cronebbj.home.xs4all.nl/MATCIntroduction.html by Jan Hoogland (Dutch Arabist). MATC treats texts on the basis of four basic principles that Jan Hoogland also emphasized in his teaching of Arabic as a foreign language in recent years:

building up vocabulary knowledge, understanding the structure of complex sentences, paying attention to combinations of words (collocations and idiomatic expressions) and to connectors and signal words, the words that create coherence and structure in a text.
