Dating–Lilia

Greetings and welcome! [00:00]السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته. أهلاً ومرحبًا بكم.
Today we will talk about what Lilia said about dating in different Arab countries, specifically in Tunisia, and what she thinks about it. [00:05]اليوم سنتحدّث عمّا قالته ليليا بشأن المواعدة في البلدان العربية المختلفة، وتحديدًا في دولة تونس، وعن رأيها في ذلك.
So, let's start with page 139, line 1. "Dating in Arab Muslim countries like my country, Tunisia, is never easy," says Lilia. [00:17]فهيّا بنا نبدأ فى الصفحة المائة تسع وثلاثون، وتحديدًا في السطر الأول—تقول ليليا، (المواعدة في البلدان العربية المسلمة مثل بلدي تونس ليست بالأمر الهيّن أبدًا).
Here, Lilia uses the word هيّن with the word أمر, and we often use these two words together to say that an order... Or something simple. [00:34]فتستخدم ليليا هنا كلمة [هيّن] مع كلمة [أمر]، وغالبًا ما نستخدم هاتين الكلمتين معًا لنقول أن أمر... أو أن أمرًا ما هو أمر بسيط.
So... I say, for example, "writing this article is an easy thing," which means that writing this article is a simple matter that does not require much effort. [00:47]فا… أقول مثلًا، (إن كتابة هذا المقال هو أمر هيّن)، ومعناه أن كتابة هذا المقال، هو أمر بسيط لا يتطلب مجهودًا كبيرًا.
But if we use this word in negation, as we often do, we say 'this is not an easy thing.' And it means that the unpredictable thing is a difficult matter and it is a complicated matter. [01:00]ولكن إن استخدمنا هذا اللفظ في النفي، وغالبًا ما نستخدمه كذلك في النفي [أمر هيّن] نقول (هذا ليس أمر هيّن)، ومعناه أن الأمر على غير المتوقع هو أمر صعب وهو أمر معقد.
Here Lilia says, 'dating is never an easy thing. That is, it is unpredictable, that it's complicated. [01:18]فهنا تقول ليليا، (أن المواعدة ليست بالأمر الهيّن أبدًا) أي على غير المتوقع (إن هذا الأمر هو أمر معقد).
Great! Then we move on to line 6 ."The nature of the relationship between dating people usually goes back to the point where families are open to the idea of dating," says Lilia. [01:31]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى السطر السادس—وتقول ليليا، (عادةً ما تعود طبيعة العلاقة بين المتواعدين إلى درجة تفتُح العائلات و تقبُلهم لفكرة المواعدة).
Lolya... Lilia uses here is the word تقبُل (acceptance) which is followed by لـ and a masdar (verbal noun, gerund, infinitive), and often you need to use لـ after a masdar, [01:47]وتستخدم لوليّا... ليليا هنا كلمة [تقبُل] وهي المصدر وتستخدم بعدها حرف [ اللام]، وغالبًا ما تحتاج إلى استخدام حرف [ اللام] بعد استخدام المصدر [تقبُل]،
so she says, (acceptance of or accepting something). Here she says, "You accept them for the idea of dating," so she uses لـ after the masdar. [02:03]فتقول، (تقبُلٍ أو تقبلٌ لأمر ما) فهنا تقول، (تقبُلهم لفكرة المواعدة) فتستخدم حرف [ اللام] بعد المصدر [تقبُل].
You can say, "I have acceptance of this idea; I have acceptance of this suggestion." and use لـ after using the masdar. [02:16]يمكنك أن تقول، (أنا عندي تقبُل لهذه الفكرة، أنا عندي تقبُل لهذا الاقتراح) فتستخدم حرف [ اللام] بعد استخدام المصدر [تقبُل].
Great! Then we move on to line 8. Lilia says, "Either the family is liberal, open, and amenable to dating without any problem," and continues to explain and detail the types of families. [02:32]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى السطر الثامن—تقول ليليا، (فإما أن تكون العائلة متحررة، ومتفتحة، وقابلة لموضوع المواعدة بدون أدنى إشكال) وتستمر في شرحها وتفصيلها لأنواع العائلات.
You can use إما (either) as you used it here for detail and for explanation, and you can also use إما (or) to choose when you give a choice to someone, saying, for example, "either you travel, or you stay in your country." [02:51]فيمكنك أن تستخدم [إما] كما استخدمتها هي هنا للتفصيل و للشرح، كما يمكنك أن تستخدم [إما] كذلك للتخييرعندما تعطي خيارًا لشخص ما فتقول مثلًا، (إما أن تسافر، وإما أن تبقى في بلدك).
You use um… إما here for choice you give to someone: Either read the book, or watch the video. You give a specific choice, [03:09]أنت تستخدم أم… [إما] هنا للتخيير تعطي خيارًا لشخص ما (إما أن تقرأ الكتاب، وإما أن تشاهد الفيديو) أنت تعطي خيارًا محددًا،
so you use إما or وإما – both words at the beginning of the sentence, to give the choice to... to someone. This is one use or one of the uses of the character إما. [03:23]فتستخدم [إما، وإما] كلا الكلمتين في بداية الجملة لإعطاء الخيار إلى... لشخص ما. وهذه أحد استخدام أو أحد استخدامات حرف [إما].
Here, Lilia uses إما for detail, and it is used in the same way, but she elaborates... You use it to separate the different types or options of families. [03:38]هنا تستخدم ليليا [إما] للتفصيل، وهي تستخدم بنفس الشكل و لكنها تُفصّل... تستخدمها لتُفصّل الأنواع أو الخيارات المختلفة من العائلات.
Great! We then move to line 13. And Lilia says here, "And she is the one who does not accept the idea of dating at all." So Lilia here uses the word بتاتًا in the sense of 'never.' [03:53]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى السطر الثالث عشر-وتقول ليليا هنا، (وهي تلك التي لا تقبل فكرة المواعدة بتاتًا) فتستخدم ليليا هنا كلمة [بتاتًا] بمعنى [أبدًا].
You say, "She is the one who never accepts the idea of dating." You can also say "Never accept the idea of a date" as bits are used in the sense of never in the sense of negation. [04:12]تقول، (هي تلك التي لا تقبل فكرة المواعدة بتاتًا) يمكنك كذلك أن تقول (لا تقبل فكرة المواعدة أبدًا) فبتاتًا تُستخدم بمعنى أبدًا للنفي.
For example, you say, "I do not accept this command at all. I do not accept this command at all." And أبدًا and بتاتًا are used in the same sense to negate. [04:26]تقول مثلًا، (أنا لا أقبل هذا الأمر بتاتًا، أنا لا أقبل هذا الأمر أبدًا)، و[أبدًا] و [بتاتًا] بمعنى واحد يستخدمان للنفي.
You can also say على الإطلاق. As Lilia used it later on line 15. And she says, "and a kind of moral rebellion that is not allowed at all" ... that is not allowed at all. [04:41]كما يمكنك أن تقول [على الإطلاق]، كما استخدمتها ليليا لاحقًا في السطر الخامس عشر—وهي تقول، (ونوعًا من التمرد الأخلاقي غير المسموح به على الإطلاق) غير المسموح به بتاتًا غير المسموح بهأبدًا.
You can use any of these for the negation. [05:02]يمكنك أن تستخدم [بتاتًا، أبدًا، أو على الإطلاق] للنفي.
Great! We then move on to line 20. "And in these cases," Lilia says, "the parties have to make a decision... to make a firm decision." [05:09]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى السطر العشرون—وتقول ليليا، (وفي هذه الحالات على الطرفين أن يتخذ قرارًا... أن يتخذ قرارًا حاسمًا).
Here, Lilia uses the word يتخذ (he takes)... or the verb يتخذ with the word قرار (decision). And we often use this verb with the word قرار. [05:23]وهنا تستخدم ليليا كلمة [يتخذ]... أو فعل [يتخذ] مع كلمة [قرار]، وغالبًا ما نستخدم هذا الفعل مع كلمة [قرار]،
We say, "I made a decision, or he makes a decision. I made an important decision. You must make a decision on the case." Thus you use the verb 'take' with the noun 'decision.' [05:33]نقول (إتّخذْتُ قرارًا، أو يتخذ قرارًا، أنا إتخذت قرارًا هامًا، لا بدّ وأن تتخذ قرارًا بشأن القضية) وهكذا تستخدم الفعل [يتخذ] مع الاسم [قرار].
Great! Then we move on to line 36. And Lilia says here, "If the young man is of the upper class, he can invite his girlfriend to a fine dinner." [05:54]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى السطر السادس والثلاثون -وتقول ليليا هنا، (فإن كان الشاب من الطبقة العليا، فبإمكانه عزوم صديقته على عشاء فاخر).
Here, Lilia uses the conjunction إن (if), which is used to express the conditional, as she says, "If the young man is of the upper class, he can invite his girlfriend to a luxurious dinner." [06:12]وهنا تستخدم ليليا حرف [إن] وهو يستخدم للتعبيرعن الشرط فهي تقول، (إن كان الشاب من الطبقة العليا، فبإمكانه عزوم صديقته علي عشاء فاخر).
And we would like to explain the use of إن here. If you want to use إنو it specifies the condition, and you want to say that something will only happen "if"... if something else happens. [06:28]ونود أن نشرح استخدام [إن] هنا، فإن أردت أن تستخدام [إن] هي تفيد الشرطية وأنت تريد أن تقول أن أمرًا ما سيحدث فقط في ح... في حال حدوث أمرٍ آخر.
"If I win the prize, I'll buy the car." So... Buying the car depends on you winning the prize. [06:47](إن حصلت على الجائزة فسأشتري السيارة)ف… ‏اشتراء السيارة هو يتوقف على حصولك على الجائزة.
"If I go out, I'll buy merchandise. If I go to college, I'll talk to my director," and so on. [07:02](إن خرجت من المنزل فسأشتري البضائع، إن ذهبت إلى الجامعة فسأتحدّث مع مديري) وهكذا.
Here, the meaning of the conditional, which is that something will happen only when another thing happens, [07:16]فإن هنا تفيد معنى الشرطي… المعنى الشرطي، وهو أن أمر ما سيحدث فقط عند حدوث أمر آخر،
and often the thing that you mention in the second half of the sentence is the thing that relates to the occurrence of the first thing you mention after the conjunction إن. [07:28]وغالبًا الأمر الذي أو تذكره في النصف الثاني من الجملة هو الأمر الذي يتعلّق بحدوث الأمر الأول الذي تذكره بعد حرف [إن].
"If I go out of the house, I will buy goods... or I will buy goods." So, the purchase of goods depends on what I mentioned in the first half of the sentence, which is my leaving the house. [07:45](إن خرجت من المنزلفسأشتري البضائع أو سأشتري البضائع) فشراء البضائع يتوقف على ما ذكرته في النصف الأول من الجملة، وهو خروجي من المنزل.
You can say, "If you want to read, go to the library." Your going to the library depends on your willingness to read, and so on. [08:05]يمكنك أن تقول، (إن كنت تريد القراءة فلتذهب إلى المكتبة) فذهابك إلى المكتبة يتوقف على إرادتك للقراءة وهكذا.
In the first half, you mention the condition, and in the second half, you mention the verb that relates to the condition. [08:21]ففي النصف الأول تذكر الشرط، وفي النصف الثاني تذكر الفعل الذي يتعلّق بالشرط.
You can use the past tense, and you can also use the present tense after the conditional conjunction إن. [08:29]ويمكنك أن تستخدم الفعل الماضي، كما يمكنك أن تستخدم الفعل المضارع بعد حرف الشرط [إن].
You can say إن as I used it, or as Lilia said here, "If the young man is of the upper class, he can invite a friend... his girlfriend to a fancy dinner," and uses the past in this case. [08:39]يمكنك أن تقول [إن كان] كما استخدمتها أو كما قالت ليليا هنا، (إن كان الشاب من الطبقة العليا، فبإمكانه عزوم صديق... صديقته على عشاءٍ فاخر) وتستخدم الماضي في هذه الحالة.
But you can also use the present tense and say, for example, "If you study, you'll pass." "If you do good, you will be rewarded." "If you go to university and study, you will get a master's or doctorate," and so on. [08:57]ولكن يمكنك كذلك أن تستخدم المضارع وتقول مثلًا (إن تذاكر تنجح، إن تفعل الخير تُثاب عليه، إن تذهب إلى الجامعة وتدرس تحصل على الماجستير أو الدكتوراة) وهكذا.
You can use the past or the present, and the past is probably more common as you can see here in this example. "If the guy is of the upper class, he can invite his girlfriend to a fancy dinner." [09:19]فيمكنك أن تستخدم الماضي أو المضارع، واستخدام الماضي ربما يكون أكثر شيوعًا كما ترى هنا في هذا المثال (فإن كان الشاب من الطبقة العليا فبإمكانه عزوم صديقته على عشاء فاخر).
