The Royal Family of Jordan–Luma

Greetings! [00:00]السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.
Welcome to a new Arabic Voices video, your path to learning Arabic. [00:03]أهلاً ومرحبًا بكم في فيديو جديد من فيديوهات Arabic Voices طريقك لتعلم العربية.
Today we will comment on what Luma said about the life of King Hussein, may he rest in peace. [00:10]سنقوم اليوم بالتعليق عمّا قالته لومة بشأن حياة الملك حسين رحمه الله.
We will start on page 99 on line 1. Luma says, "The royal family's fame began with the history of King Hussein bin Talal, may he rest in peace." [00:18]وسنبدأ في الصفحة التاسعة والتسعون بالسطر الأول—تقول لومة، (بدأت الشهرة للعائلة المالكة منذ تاريخ الملك حسين بن طلال الله يرحمه).
Luma here uses the phrase 'God have mercy on him' to refer to a person who has passed away from our world. [00:34]فتستخدم لومة هنا عبارة [الله يرحمه] للإشارة إلى شخصٍ قد توفي ورحل عن عالمنا.
This phrase is often used in the Arabic language when you want to refer to a person who has died. [00:42]وهذه العبارة تُستخدم كثيرًا في اللغة العربية عندما تريد الإشارة إلى شخص قد مات.
For example, I say, "My grandfather, may God have mercy on him, or my grandmother, may God have mercy on her... My uncle, may God have mercy on him." [00:49]أقول مثلًا، (جدي الله يرحمه أو جدتي الله يرحمها... عمي الله يرحمه)
This means that they are dead, they have passed away, and they are gone from our world. [00:56]وهذا يعني أنهم قد ماتوا قد توفواو رحلوا عن عالمنا.
In fact, it is more correct to say رحمه الله and not الله يرحمه. It is more common in the Jordanian dialect, or in the Egyptian dialect. [01:02]وفي الحقيقة الأصح أن تقول [رحمه الله] وليس الله يرحمه، الله يرحمه هي أكثر شيوعًا في اللهجة الأردنية، أو في اللهجة المصرية.
It is more correct and accurate in MSA to begin with the verb first, then after that God's name, and the verb is in the past, so you say رحمه الله or رحمها الله. [01:14]والأصح والدقيق في الفصحى أن تبدأ بالفعل أولًا، ثم بعد ذلك لفظ الجلالة، ويكون الفعل في الماضي فتقول [رحمه الله] أو [رحمها الله].
My grandfather, may God have mercy on her, or my grandmother, may God have mercy on her. This means that they have passed away, or they have left our world. [01:28](جدي رحمه الله أو جدتي رحمها الله) ومعنى ذلك أنهم قد توفوا، أو قد رحلوا عن عالمنا.
Great! Then we move on to line 2. Here, we want to quickly review what we have already explained about the adjective and the modified noun. [01:40]عظيم! بعد ذلك ننتقل إلى السطر الثاني—وهنا نريد أن نراجع سريعًا ما كنا قد شرحناه من قبل بشأن الصفة والموصوف.
We have pointed out that the adjective always follows the modified noun in the definitness. That is, if you use the definite article الـ in the noun, you always use it in the adjective as well. And if… Ii you do not use the definite article, then you do not use it in the adjective, either. [01:54]وقد أشرنا إلى أن الصفة دائمًا تتبع الموصوف في التعريف والتنكير، أي إذا استخدمت [ال] في الموصوف دائمًا تستخدم [ال] في الصفة كذلك، وإذا… إذا لم تستخدم [ال] فلا تستخدم [ال] في الصفة كذلك.
I saw this as a good example for a review of adjective and modified noun, so I wanted to quickly reference it here in this video. [02:13]وقد رأيت أن هذا مثال جيد لمراجعة الصفة والموصوف، فأردت الإشارة إليه سريعًا هنا في هذا الفيديو.
Luma says: "Our young king is polite." The first quality is goodness—the second quality, beloved—the third quality, and in each of these adjectives Luma uses a particle to... [02:23]تقول لومة، (ملكنا الشاب المهذب) الصفة الأولى، الخلوق—الصفة الثانية، المحبوب—الصفة الثالثة وفي كلٍ من هذه الصفات تستخدم لومة حرف ل...
... the definite article الـ; Because it has used the definite article 'THE young man' with the definite article if the adjective follows the modified noun (polite, beloved...). [02:38]التعريف [ال] أو أداة التعريف [ال]؛ لأنها قد استخدمت في الموصوف أداة التعريف [ال] (الشاب) مع أداة التعريف إذا تتبع الصفة كذلك الموصوف (المهذب، الخلوق، المحبوب).
We then move on to what Luma said on line 8. Luma says about the queen, "Queen Noor came from America, with Lebanese roots, blond, beautiful, and tall." [02:59]ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى ما قالته لومة في السطر الثامن—تقول لومة عن الملكة، (كانت الملكة نور القادمة من أمريكا ذات الجذور اللبنانية الشقراء الجميلة، ذات القامة الفارعة)
And Luma here indicates that the queen had Lebanese roots; she had Lebanese roots and had..or as... she was tall. [03:20]فتشير لومة هنا إلى أن الملكة كانت صاحبة جذور لبنانية، كان لها جذور لبنانية وكان لها أو ك… كانت قامتها فارعة.
Luma here uses the word ذات to denote possessiveness. You can use this word to denote possessiveness with the feminine and [ذا] with the masculine. [03:34]تستخدم لومة هنا كلمة [ذات] للإشارة إلى الملكية، فيمكنك أن تستخدم هذه الكلمة للإشارة إلى الملكية [ذات] مع المؤنث و[ذا] مع المذكر.
"She is the queen who has Lebanese roots," meaning she had Lebanese roots. [03:50](هي الملكة ذات الجذور اللبنانية) أي كانت تمتلك أو كان لها جذور لبنانية.
"She is the queen of tall stature" meaning she has a tall stature. [03:58](هي الملكة ذات القامة الفارعة) أي كانت لها أو عندها قامة فارعة.
For example, you say 'he is a man with money,' meaning he is a money owner who has money. [04:06]تقول مثلًا (هو رجلٌ ذا مال) أي هو صاحب مال يمتلك مال.
"She is a woman according to her," meaning that her family is famous and so on. [04:13](هي امراة ذات حسب) أي أن عائلتها مشهورة وهكذا.
"She was a queen of high stature," meaning she had a short stature. [04:22](هي كانت ملكة ذات قامة فارعة) أي كان لها قامة فارعة.
You can use ذات for the feminine or ذا for the masculine. [04:28]يمكنك أن تستخدم [ذات] للمؤنث أو [ذا] للمذكر.
You can also use the synonym of the word ذات which is صاحبة or صاحب in the sense of possession, as well. [04:34]ويمكنك كذلك أن تستخدم المرادف لكلمة [ذات] وهو [صاحبة أو صاحب] بمعنى الملكية كذلك.
She was the queen having Lebanese roots; she was the queen with the tallest stature. صاحبة in the sense of possession. [04:44](هي كانت ملكة صاحبة جذور لبنانية، هي كانت ملكة صاحبة القامة الفارعة) صاحبة بمعنى ذات بمعنى الملكية.
And if you want to use the masculine, you can use صاحب (he has money), meaning he owns money. [04:57]وإذا أردت أن تستخدم المذكر فيمكنك أن تستخدم صاحب (هو صاحب مال) (هو ذا مال) بمعنى يمتلك مال.
So, ذات or صاحبة or ذا or صاحب to indicate possession. [05:10]فذات أو صاحبة، ذا أو صاحب بمعنى الملكية.
Great! We then move on to what Luma said on line 12. Luma says, "Queen Noor gave birth to: Prince Hamzah, Prince Hashem, Princess Iman, and the fourth princess, I do not know her name." [05:16]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى ما قالته لومة في السطر الثاني عشر- تقول لومة، (أنجبت الملكة نور: الأمير حمزة، والأمير هاشم، والأميرة إيمان، والأميرة الرابعة مش عارفة اسمها).
Here we see that Luma has used a word or phrase from the Jordanian colloquial. [05:34]وهنا نرى أن لومة قد استخدمت لفظ، أو كلمة، أو عبارة من العامية الأردنية.
She uses مش here for negation, and this is not a negation in MSA; it is not a word in MSA, but it is correct in MSA to say to... [05:44]هي تستخدم [مش] هنا للنفي، وهذه ليست أداة نفي في الفصحى، هي ليست كلمة في الفصحى، ولكن الصحيح في الفصحى أن تقول ل...
Or Luma could have said, "I don't know her name." with لا. "I dont know her name." [05:56]أو كانت يمكن للومة أن تقول لا أعرف اسمها... لا أعرف اسمها.
This is common in... when we speak Standard Arabic. [06:02]وهذا أمر شائع في... عندما نقوم بالتحدّث باللغة العربية الفصحى
There are often slips, and sometimes there are some words that we use from our dialects, whether it is the Egyptian dialect, the Jordanian dialect, or the Moroccan dialect. [06:09]غالبًا ما يكون هناك زلات، وأحيانًا يكون هناك بعض الكلمات التي نستخدمها من لهجاتنا، سواء كانت اللهجة المصرية، أو اللهجة الأردنية، أو اللهجة المغربية.
Sometimes when speaking in Standard Arabic there are slips and this is a common occurrence. [06:23]أحيانًا عند الحديث بالفصحى يكون هناك زلات وهذا أمر شائع.
Also, as you can see, Luma later said on line 17, when she used "but fate saved him, and fate was not on the side of the people." [06:28]كما ترونه كذلك، فيما قالته لومة لاحقا في السطر السابع عشر عندما استخدمت (ولكن برضو القدر أنقذه، ولم يكن القدر إلى جانب الشعب).
Luma here also uses another word from the colloquial, or from the Jordanian dialect, and says برضو and this is not a word... [06:42]فتستخدم لومة هنا أيضًا كلمة أخرى من العامية، أو من اللهجة الأردنية فتقول [ولكن برضو] وهذه ليست كلمة...
It is not a formal Arabic word, but the more accurate or correct word if you want to use the standard Arabic word, say كذلك. [06:52]ليست كلمة عربية فصحى، ولكن الأدق أو الصحيح إذا أردت أن تستخدم الكلمة العربية الفصحى تقول [كذلك].
"But also fate saved him, and fate was not on the side of the people." برضو meaning كذلك. [07:01](ولكن كذلك أنقذه القدر، ولم يكن القدر إلى جانب الشعب) [برضو] بمعنى [كذلك].
[But Bardou] is from the Jordanian dialect, and it is also present in the Egyptian dialect. [07:10][ولكن برضو] هي من اللهجة الأردنية، وكذلك هي موجودة كذلك في اللهجة المصرية.
This is common among people speaking in Standard Arabic; This encourages you to try and persevere in learning MSA, and to try to speak MSA. [07:19]هذا أمر شائع بين متحدّثي اللغة العربية الفصحى؛ وهذا يشجعك على المحاولة والمثابرة في تعلم اللغة العربية الفصحى، ومحاولة الحديث باللغة العربية الفصحى.
Here... I mean, even native speakers of Arabic sometimes use... [07:32]فهنا… يعني حتى متحدّثو في اللغة العربية يستخدموا أحيانًا...
...they make some mistakes; there are some slips; and they use words from various dialects. [07:38]يقومون ببعض الأخطاء، وهناك بعض الزلات، واستخدام كلمات من اللهجات المختلفة.
Great! We then move on to the last point, which is on line 28. [07:47]عظيم! ننتقل بعد ذلك إلى النقطة الأخيرة، وهي في السطر الثامن والعشرون
Luma says here, "As for the currently ruling royal family, it is: King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, and his mother is Princess Muna of England." [07:57]تقولتقول لومة هنا، (أما بالنسبة للعائلة المالكة الحاكمة حاليًا فهو: الملك عبد الله بن الحسين، ووالدته هي الأميرة منى من انكلترا)
Luma here uses the word حاليًا to refer to the current time or 'now.' [08:11]فتستخدم لومة هنا كلمة [حاليًا] للإشارة إلى الوقت الحالي أو الآن.
You can use حاليًا to refer to 'now' instead of الآن. You can also say في الوقت الحالي, and you can also say في الوقت الراهن. [08:19]فيمكنك أن تستخدم كلمة [حاليًا] للإشارة إلى الآن بدلًا من الآن، يمكنك كذلك أن تقول [في الوقت الحالي] يمكنك كذلك أن تقول [في الوقت الراهن]
These are different words that mean the same thing, you can use them when referring to the present or now. [08:33]هذه كلمات مختلفة تعني نفس الشيء، يمكنك استخدامها عندما تشير إلى الزمن الراهن أو الآن.
You can say "as for the ruling royal family now, it is: King Abdullah Ibn Al Hussein," "as for the ruling royal family at the present time, it is: King Abdullah," "as for the ruling royal family at the present, it is: King Abdullah..." and so on. [08:42]يمكنك أن تقول (أما بالنسبة للعائلة المالكة الحاكمة الآن فهو: الملك عبد الله ابن الحسين، أما بالنسبة للعائلة المالكة الحاكمة في الوقت الحالي فهو: الملك عبد الله، أما بالنسبة للعائلة المالكة الحاكمة في الوقت الراهن فهو: الملك عبد الله) وهكذا.
All of these terms are correct to refer to the present tense, the now, or the present time. [09:05]فإذا قلت [الآن] [حاليًا] [في الوقت الحالي] [في الوقت الراهن] أيًا منهم يكون صحيحًا للإشارة إلى الزمن المضارع، أو الآن، أو الوقت الحالي.
With this, we have finished commenting on what Luma said, and I thank you very much. [09:21]وبهذا نكون قد انتهينا من التعليق عمّا قالته لومة، وأشكركم شكرًا جزيلًا.
I'm Mustafa Ahmed, and I'll see you in another video. And may the peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you. [09:28]كان معكم مصطفى أحمد، ألقاكم في فيديو آخر، والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.
