“Quickly! The guests are about to arrive!” Hana is nervous. A suitor (potentially her future husband!) and his family are coming to discuss marriage. Hana’s gone quiet on the outside, but her mind is racing on the inside. Let’s listen in.

The Egyptian Arabic Readers series aims to provide learners with much-needed exposure to authentic language. The fifteen books in the series are at a similar level (B1-B2) and can be read in any order. The stories are a fun and flexible tool for building vocabulary, improving language skills, and developing overall fluency.

The main text is presented on even-numbered pages with tashkeel (diacritics) to aid in reading, while parallel English translations on odd-numbered pages are there to help you better understand new words and idioms. A second version of the text is given at the back of the book, without the distraction of tashkeel and translations, for those who are up to the challenge.

It was an informative story about the Egyptian traditions and also very fun to read. I am glad since I found many new words in it which means it was great for my level (intermediate). Absolutely recommend. I just wish it was longer since I finished reading very quickly.

I purchased this book as part of the Egyptian Arabic Readers bundle. Although my focus dialect/dialect family is Levantine Arabic, I enjoy using materials for other dialects as well to improve my listening comprehension. After purchasing previous products from Lingualism, I assumed that the readers would be of top quality. I am pleased to write that the readers have been excellent!

I found this story quite fascinating in how it depicted an Egyptian tradition and how the writer developed the voice of the protagonist. I recommend the readers for anyone looking to strengthen their skills in colloquial Arabic.
