The Modern Standard Arabic Readers series aims to provide learners with much-needed exposure to authentic language. The thirty books in the series are at a similar level (B1-B2) and can be read in any order. The stories are a fun and flexible tool for building vocabulary, improving language skills, and developing overall fluency.

The main text is presented on even-numbered pages with tashkeel (diacritics) to aid in reading, while parallel English translations on odd-numbered pages are there to help you better understand new words and idioms. A second version of the text is given at the back of the book, without the distraction of tashkeel and translations, for those who are up to the challenge.

This series is perhaps the most useful tool that I have encountered in my longstanding quest for fluency in the Arabic language. My literacy has improved in leaps and bounds since I started using these readers and the audio recordings have been invaluable in refining my listening skills. I cannot recommend these books highly enough.

This is what I have been looking for for a long time. Native speaker tells a story in MSA with fine pronunciation and sound tracks are of the highest quality. You have the opportunity to use the booklet in different ways, depending on where the emphasis lies: pronunciation, language comprehension, new words and expressions, etc. For my part, I listen to the audio when I drive, when doing the dishes, in the gym, etc. and use my auditive memory for learning. Then I read the text without tashkeel and at last I check the new words and expressions in the other text with diacritical marks. The story often repeats the same words and expressions wich lowers its stylistic value BUT it is all about language learning so it is more than okay. Repetitio est mater studiorum. The only negative I can bring up is that the English translation is not a translation at all but rather a text wich tells the same story in English. If you want to know exactly what the new words mean, you have to take your old and worn dictionary. The book is so useful for my self-studies that I give five stars.
