The stories in Mido: In Tunisian Arabic are lighthearted and easy to follow, but also engaging, all the while presenting the lively language and culture of Tunisians today. However, these stories are aimed at adult language-learners—not children—as secrets, lies, and crime appear.
The first chapter introduces Mido and his family, as we take a peek at the household’s typical morning. Mido’s father, mother, brother, and sister are each featured in a chapter that shows a day in their lives. And Mido, our hero, stars in the remaining chapters.
The Arabic texts appear on even-numbered pages, while the English translations can be found on the following odd-numbered pages along with cultural and language notes.
Dozens of beautiful illustrations can be found throughout the book to help the reader better understand the texts. Audio recorded by voice actors from Tunis is free to stream or download.

Very well put-together and useful book, covering a wide range of daily situations with relevant vocabulary and expressions. The audio track + written text, both in dialect, is a great combination I have not seen available elsewhere that makes deciphering spoken dialect much easier until you are more comfortable with its sounds and patterns.
As I live in Tunis and study on my own, this book has helped me slowly make more and more sense of what I hear around me on a daily base as well as figure out how Tunisian dialect relates back to other varieties of Arabic. Highly recommended.

This book is a wonderful resource because of the word-for-word English translations and the free audio. I would recommend you start with the Tunisian vocabulary book of the same series as Mido is (in my opinion) not a book for beginners. I’ve listened to this audio with Tunisian friends and they agreed it was a good resource. Wholeheartedly recommended!

I’ve found this book to be a wonderful resource for learning Tunisian Arabic in a fun and interesting way. It’s especially appreciated since finding resources for Tunisian Arabic can be difficult. The stories are interesting, and I don’t get tired of repeatedly listening to them in order to improve my comprehension.

If you’re looking to learn the Tunisian dialect you probably already know how hard it is to find learning materials for English speakers. This book is solid, I love that it includes both Arabic and English so you can practice reading and fully understand what you’re reading. And the audio track helps with reading and pronunciation as well.
