Kameen Shwayy ‘An Haali (“A Little More About Myself”) will be of tremendous help to independent language learners who want to develop their conversational skills and increase their Levantine (Lebanese and Syrian) Arabic vocabulary.

Kameen Shwayy ‘An Haali presents the results of a survey given to 10 Levantine Arabic speakers, five from Lebanon and five from Syria. Each of the 36 sections in the book begins with a question from the survey followed by the 10 responses and a breakdown of the vocabulary. Translations in both Modern Standard Arabic and English follow. Each section concludes with a page where you are encouraged to give your own answer to the question using newly learned words and phrases.

This book is the second of a two-part series. If you are not yet at an intermediate level of Levantine Arabic, it is advised that you complete the first book, Shwayy ‘An Haali (which includes even the most basic words in the chapter glossaries) before moving on to Kameen Shwayy ‘An Haali. In Kameen Shwayy ‘An Haali, the responses are typically somewhat longer than those in the first book.

For more advanced learners, the texts appear again in the back of the book without voweling (tashkeel) or translations (Appendix C), to provide a more challenging reading experience without distractions. Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) translations are also given for learners who are more proficient in MSA and can benefit from comparing the similarities and differences between it and Levantine Colloquial Arabic (LCA).

Well, I’m sorry four sounding rude but, on the one hand, the handbook is a pure jewel, but the audio is in noway within the reach on non native speaker. It’s absolutely OUTRAGEOUS !!!!!

Fortnunately, I was lucky to find something more accessible.

I’ll keep your product for later.

    With great disappointement.

But, with respect, I don’t understand why you did this.

Thank you for hour reply. I’ll follow your advice. Eh… I didn’t see any transcripts. It would have helped me a lot.

Actually, I wrote to you about the second book,

Same difficulties with the first one.

    Kind regards.

Extremely satisfied!! I found it useful at a lower intermediate level a couple of years ago and still find myself coming back to it a couple of years later even at a higher intermediate/lower advanced level :)))) Ya3tikon el 3afiye

Great resource, it covers so many topics which is amazing! Whenever I knew I would be having a conversation with someone I would pick a few topics beforehand from this book, go through them and then use what I learned during the conversation. I love that the book is organized in ‘Question & Answeres’ way, it makes learning so much easier.

This book is a continuation of Shwayy ‘an haali, and reaches into more advanced territory. I found the book and the audio very useful for getting my ear used to hearing rapid and natural speech. At first, I thought I might not be able to understand anything, but after revisiting the lessons and listening to them several times, I could tell I was understanding more and more.
It’s all about exposure, exposure, exposure!

I cannot rate this highly enough. After years of learning multiple languages, this is one of the most useful tools I’ve come across. Incredibly useful vocabulary and the audio is indispensable to understand the vocabulary in use, correct your pronunciation and practice. Of course, you need a base of grammar and vocabulary to begin using and enjoying this book … hence it A2 and B1 – but my Arabic has improved so fast with this and I feel more comfortable than ever speaking and listening to locals. Will there be more advanced versions with longer responses? Congratulations !!!
