The stories in Mido: In Levantine Arabic are lighthearted and easy to follow, but also engaging, all the while presenting the lively language and culture of the Lebanese today. However, these stories are aimed at adult language-learners—and not children—as secrets and lies and crime make appearances.

The first chapter serves as an introduction to Mido and his family, as we take a peek at the household’s typical morning. Mido’s father, mother, brother, and sister each feature in a chapter showing a day in their lives. And Mido, our hero, stars in the remaining chapters.

The Arabic texts appear on even-numbered pages, while the English translations can be found on the following odd-numbered pages along with cultural and language notes.

Dozens of beautiful illustrations can be found throughout the book to help the reader better understand the texts. Audio professionally recorded by a voice actor in Beirut is available to stream or download free of charge.

This is a really great resource – listening to the audio a few times first helps with comprehension and you can then read the text to understand the bits you missed. The explanatory notes are concise and well-chosen.

What can I say – an amazing reading and listening resource! Reading is such an important (crucial!) part of the language learning process, so the more reading opportunity you have the better. I loved every chapter of this book, still coming back to it from time to time. You have two in one with this book – you can also use it as a listening material and just listen to it as you would to any audiobook (which I also did). Highly recommend!

I really enjoy the book. It’s a great resource for learning Lebanese Arabic. It is often hard to find good books for Arabic dialects as most course books and readers focus on MSA. You do need a basis in Lebanese Arabic grammar and vocabulary before starting this reader though so it is not for the beginner in Lebanese Arabic. But excellent practice material if you already are at intermediate level. Looking forward to also start Mido in other Arabic dialects.

I bought this book in levantine arabic. And it is exactly what I needed. I habe never seen such a good and complete concept for reading my first book in a foreign language.
It is really amazing, that I can hear the pronounciation in the Audio files and find the vocabulary not only in alphabetic order but in order of apearance in the text as well. And then there is even the translation in the book.
Up to now I learned 9 languages, but I never found such a complete concept suitable for somebody who has learned the language to a basic level and now wants to read and maybe even listen the first easy book.
    Congratulations to the author!
    I wish you big success!!
