Wonderful new addition to the Lingualism-shop! I really hope that this concept will be applied to every single Arabic-speaking country, including the more peripheral ones which are often overlooked when it comes to language-learning materials (Morocco, Tunisia, Yemen, Sudan, Algeria, Libya, Iraq etc.)
Hopefully we'll see This is Syria ....Famous Syrians and This is Palestine....Famous Palestinians on here real soon ....انشالله يا رب ! 🤞
Overall the deck is good, with quality audio. However, there are a LOT of repeated entries, or nearly repeated entries.
شو بْتِشْتِغِل؟ appears THREE times in the deck, then there are a lot of phrases that are exacly the same but with just a ما added or a question mark, like
هُوِّ ما بيحِبّ البوظة and هُوِّ بيحِبّ البوظة؟.
All this repetitions are a bit frustrating when they appear, and it make the number of original sentences much lower than 500 in the deck.
The deck is well made and price wise is okay. However I see some essential faults in the deck:
1. There are a lot of repeated words: a lot of words appear in two sections with two different entries, which very annoying because it doesn't make any sense. To name a few (map appears in section 10 and 41, "where" appears in sections 51 and 53; for some reason "film" appears repeated in section 21 (number 2150 and 2239 if anyone wants to check)). These double entries really make no sense to me. I've had the deck for less than a week, so I'm sure the number of repeated entries is even larger.
2. For looking up words it is very useful that they are organized according to fields (food, places, family, etc), but for learning purposes it is very undesireable that the verb to breastfeed is learned before house, for example.
3. There is some essential vocabulary missing in the deck
Overall I don't regret buying it mainly because of the audio, but it really leaves much to be desired
I love it. It feels like it’s a natural conversation, I like that kind of learning, plus the topics are interesting.
I love this Level Up! series. The first level was almost too easy for me, but I did learn a few new vocabulary words. Knowing the story, I was better able to approach the next two levels. I haven't yet tackled the last level, but I am making great progress, as I always do with Lingualism products!
Generally good, just a remark: some of them have weeks and not sentences. It is pegged that sentences are easier to remember than singlewords.
This series is exactly what I have been looking for!
I hope a Russian version and probably Spanish version will be included in this series too!
I enjoyed this , hope there will be one for Palestine and the other Levantine countries : Lebanon, Syria and Jordan 🙏🏼🤞🏼
This is the best book I have used for learning to read, using the audio for pronunciation and developing vocabulary. I am probably around an A2 level. I enjoy learning by reading and the progressive approach of going from simple to detailed works for me. I look forward to continuing to work with these stories.
Lingualism never disappoint with their products.
Loved the book, the way it moved from simple to advanced contents.
One suggestion, you can do the same approach with other stories book that already available in website.
I really enjoy the “دي مصر (This is Egypt…)” t’s engaging. What I’m really looking for now, though, is a modern Egyptian Arabic learner’s dictionary. I know there’s “A Dictionary of Egyptian Arabic by El-Said Badawi”, which is excellent, but I’d prefer something more in the style of the Lingualism Arabic Learner’s Dictionary with clear, learner-friendly, with lots of usage examples.
This has been an incredible resource for me. Instead of making a list of unknown words in my notebook (likely never to be seen again), whenever I come across a useful word during my studies, I find and "unsuspend" it in this dictionary list. I set Anki to give me 3 more of these unsuspended words each day. It doesn't sound like much, but it's amazing how many useful words I've added to my vocabulary over time. I love that they all include audio as well.
Lingualism, I'd love an more advanced version of this too!
(my previous review can be deleted please, I pasted the wrong text).
I enjoyed it a lot. The story had an unexpected twist that kept me engaged and made it into a page-turner, especially towards the end. You'd be surprised how much you can get into a story, if you're rewarded with the feeling of satisfaction after ever page you read. Because 'hey, you're reading in Arabic', which makes you proud, but also keen on reading more and more. I especially appreciate the clear and very pleasant audio version of this book. There're multiple ways and orders you can read the book - whether starting out with listening, or reading and listening along. But the free audio versions provided on this website are extremely helpful.
This book has a bit more complex language to it, which involves things like 'filing a lawsuit' or 'establishing a company', so possibly it might not be your first book to read in Arabic. Though, of course it depends on your level. :) But from all the books that I've read, this is my favorite. The plot is unfolding pretty quickly and dramatically and keeps you really involved in the whole story. You might finish it fairly quickly, as myself, as you'll be enjoying it so much. I especially appreciate the strangely simple, but very convincing ways of these books conveying a 'hidden moral to the story' that makes you feel you did something good for your soul. It really hits you, even though this is not a classical, advanced literature. I don't know, maybe because you're already warmed up from all the joy and pride of being able to read a book in Arabic. But it's just a very nice feeling. Definitely a good value for your money.
I really enjoyed this book. It's the first one I read from this series and the first book I've ever read in Arabic. And it was fun! Even though the stories for this kind of learner books need to be fairly simple and limited linguistically, I was surprised how much inspiration and 'good vibe' I could draw from it. The English translation and the taskheel are both extremely useful for someone, as myself, who was scared of getting to reading at all. Altogether, a very nice read that inspires you to apply yourself more and persevere through all difficulties involved in language learning, just as the main protagonist of the book did with his dream.
It's a very nice and simple dictionary! Much better for a beginner like me to understand than lanes lexicon or wehrs dictionary for example.
Wow, I've just downloaded this, and also ordered the printed copy. What a thoughtful, well-organized and systematic learning tool! The exercises really make you listen and learn, including the common connecting phrases that I haven't seen in any more formal workbooks. So much material, I think this will really take my learning to the next stage - thank you!
I'm once again impressed with the team behind Lingualism! Initially, I hesitated to purchase the Lebanese version, fearing repetition with the Egyptian version I already owned. However, I'm thrilled to have taken the plunge. This book has been expertly tailored to Lebanon, offering a unique blend of language learning and cultural insight.
The content is meticulously crafted to prepare travelers for their visit, covering essential topics like transportation, cuisine, and must-see destinations. In essence, it's a comprehensive travel guide infused with language lessons. I'm eager to see if this series will expand to include Russian, as it would be a fantastic addition to my collection, given my interest in learning Russian.
This is a great concept -- a podcast-style script with a big range of topics. The voices are excellent and the content is super informative. The only thing I'd adjust is more of a direct word-for-word English translation, as there's some paraphrasing at times. But still it's 5 Stars. Really useful content and great discussion questions too. Excellent!
I just bought both the Palestinian and the Lebanese Voices after previously having worked my way through the Egyptian and the Syrian Voices. I can honestly say that the quality of the two new Voices-editions met all the expectations created by the previous ones! What an absolute gem this is for studying Arabic! One day I hope to wake up and find a Voices-edition for every single Arabic-speaking country sitting on my bookshelf... I can't wait for Tunisian, Moroccan, Saudi, Bahraini, Jordanian, Iraqi, Yemeni etc, etc Voices-editions! Absolutely thrilled to be part of this amazing journey! Palestinian Voices is an absolute MUST for anyone interested in Arabic
Love it !
Ukrainian Voices should be created sometime soon , looking forward to it
