Detailed Overview
Once you’ve built a foundation in Levantine Arabic, the next big challenge is sustaining a meaningful conversation. It’s one thing to say your name and where you’re from. It’s another entirely to describe your first job, your frustrations, or your future dreams. Kameen Shwayy ‘An Haali is designed to take you across that bridge into intermediate territory.
Deeper Insight into Real Lives
What makes this book special is the continuity. You are reunited with the same ten native speakers from the first book, five from Lebanon and five from Syria. Because you already know these individuals, men and women from diverse professional and social backgrounds, listening to them feels less like a clinical exercise and more like catching up with old friends.
The survey in this second volume moves into more complex and personal territory with 36 new questions, such as:
- How do you get around (transportation habits)?
- What really annoys you?
- What was your first ever job?
- What is the character trait you value most in someone?
- What is your “dream job”?
Building Listening Stamina
You will notice that the participants’ answers are a bit longer and more detailed than in the first book. This is intentional. It helps you build listening stamina by exposing you to how native speakers connect ideas, use filler words, and express opinions. You aren’t just learning a dialect. You are learning how to follow the flow of a real Syrian or Lebanese person’s train of thought.
Focus on Content, Not Searching
To help you progress more efficiently, the book removes the frustration of constant dictionary lookups. To keep you in the flow of the language, vocabulary is glossed at the beginning of each chapter and immediately after each specific response.
This dual-glossing system ensures that unknown words are always within eyesight. By removing the barrier of searching, you can focus on meaningful chunks, the groups of words native speakers naturally pair together. This makes your study sessions more productive, helping you absorb the natural rhythm and idioms of Levantine Arabic without getting stuck on isolated vocabulary.
Personalizing Your Practice
A typical study session involves listening to the native audio, mimicking the pitch and rhythm, and then moving to the practice page at the end of each section. Here, the book transitions from a listening tool to a speaking tool.
You are encouraged to take the structures you’ve just heard and use them to write your own personal response. You can even use these questions to interview a language partner or a teacher. By the end of this book, you won’t just be a better listener. You will have developed the personalized vocabulary and confidence to tell your own story in a way that sounds authentically Levantine.

Customer Reviews
I cannot rate this highly enough. After years of learning multiple languages, this is one of the most useful tools I've come across. Incredibly useful vocabulary and the audio is indispensable to understand the vocabulary in use, correct your pronunciation and practice. Of course, you need a base of grammar and vocabulary to begin using and enjoying this book ... hence it A2 and B1 - but my Arabic has improved so fast with this and I feel more comfortable than ever speaking and listening to locals. Will there be more advanced versions with longer responses? Congratulations !!!
Definitely Would want one for Palestinian ??
This book is a continuation of Shwayy 'an haali, and reaches into more advanced territory. I found the book and the audio very useful for getting my ear used to hearing rapid and natural speech. At first, I thought I might not be able to understand anything, but after revisiting the lessons and listening to them several times, I could tell I was understanding more and more.
It's all about exposure, exposure, exposure!
Great resource, it covers so many topics which is amazing! Whenever I knew I would be having a conversation with someone I would pick a few topics beforehand from this book, go through them and then use what I learned during the conversation. I love that the book is organized in 'Question & Answeres' way, it makes learning so much easier.
Extremely satisfied!! I found it useful at a lower intermediate level a couple of years ago and still find myself coming back to it a couple of years later even at a higher intermediate/lower advanced level :)))) Ya3tikon el 3afiye
