There are so many reasons to like this book. First, the vocabulary is divided into intuitive categories that makes looking things up especially easy. Second, there is an English index in the back of the book to help find words and phrases even independent of the categories that each word falls into. Third, the audio clips give me a chance to practice words that I'm focusing on in a given week.
Although I try not to rely on the transliteration, it is handy to have in case I am not looking to access the audio track.
And as a beginner, it is important to point out that the Arabic font is very clear and easy to read.
I purchased the Anki flashcards to go along with this book. I'll post a separate review about that. But in summary, this book is very user friendly and a great supplement to the studying and learning I am diong with my teacher.
The vocabulary is good but beware of the audio: which seems to use Gazan pronunciation - note the qaafs which are pronounced as 'g', which is specific to Gaza. Some word choices also lean that way.
This is a wonderful resource! It covers so much vocabulary grouped into 57 different themes such family, clothing, food, school and education, and the human body. I thought it was so good that I ordered a second copy for my Palestinian Arabic teacher so that we can use it together. It is accompanied by an audio track which makes it even more useful. One feature I really appreciate is that the text is written with the diacritic marks. I highly recommend this resource!
