When you purchase Anki flashcards from Lingualism, you are purchasing a data file used by the Anki app (application/program). The file extension is .apkg. Just like other data files you may be more familiar with, such as .doc and .pdf, you will need the right app to open and run the file; otherwise, your device won’t know what to do with it.

So, before you can start using an Anki flashcard deck, you need to download (and install) the Anki app.

The app is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop and laptop operating systems, Android, and iOS (iPhone and iPad). Click on the buttons below to be taken to the download page for the Anki app.

Windows, Mac, Linux

Download the free computer program directly from the Anki website, which also has an installation and troubleshooting guide.

Android App

The app for the Android OS is called Ankidroid and is free.

iOS App

In Apple's App Store, the app is called AnkiMobile Flashcards. The developers of Anki make their money from sales of the iOS app, so it is, unfortunately, not free, but it is well worth the investment!

Once you have the Anki app on your device, you can import decks (.apkg files) and start learning!

Learn how to import decks into the app HERE.

    1. In both the desktop and mobile app’s Preferences → Network, be sure to check “Synchronize audio and images too.” You can also check “Automatically sync on profile open/close” to make sure your apps are always in sync.
