The News in Modern Standard Arabic is an essential stepping stone for lower-intermediate learners who are interested in—but not yet ready to tackle—media Arabic. The book introduces a variety of contemporary topics that go beyond everyday vocabulary and help you discuss current events and express your ideas intelligently in Arabic.
Each unit is organized as follows:
- Main Text: Presented without tashkeel (diacritics) for natural reading practice.
- Key Words: Includes a translation matching exercise to reinforce comprehension.
- The Article: The full text with tashkeel to support accurate pronunciation and reading.
- Comprehension Questions: To check understanding of key ideas.
- Discussion Questions: To encourage deeper thinking and conversation practice.
- Expressions and Structures: A multiple-choice exercise focusing on useful grammatical and idiomatic patterns.
- Answer Key: Includes an English translation of the article.
- Notes Page: Lined space for you to record observations or vocabulary at the end of each unit.
The materials in this book are suitable for both independent learners and classroom study. Each article is presented in four complementary formats—without tashkeel, with tashkeel, as audio tracks, and in English translation—to help you meet your language-learning goals effectively.

Customer Reviews
I have the MSA (fus'ha) version of the book. I was worried that the articles might be political, but they're not. The author keeps them light and fun, and there are plenty of guides to help you learn on your own or with a teacher. Recommended!
I just bought this and The News in Egyptian Arabic in PDF form, and I'm surprised that both the PDF of these two E-books aren't searchable in Arabic, and the characters aren't stuck together while searching the PDF.
Please set a standard for your E-books like "Arabic Learner’s Dictionary" and consider fixing the problems I'm having with them.
Thank you.
As the Egyptian version of this book, I totally recommend for anyone who likes news. Stories are short enough to understand and topics vary widely to find something of interest to anyone. The sections are useful, as are the accompanying exercises. I was so convinced by the book that I regularly book Ahmed for private language sessions, which, again, I can totally recommend. 5 stars.
I've just purchased and went through the book. I'm really satisfied with my new purchase. A really great job, Ahmad. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn media Arabic.
